3/6/2021 we have to chat in private discord servers because our experiences are not welcomeRead Now The “LGBTQ+ community” is a joke. My closest online friends are lesbians, bi women, and gay men, but we have to chat in private discord servers because our experiences are not welcome on most social media websites. Working through the realities of misogyny and homophobia with them, plus sharing favorite books and movies and our art projects, has been the closest thing I have felt to a community of same-sexual attracted people, and I don’t even know most of their names. Talking about sex-based oppression and lesbian attraction anywhere else is too “terfy.” I actually feel more comfortable around my conservative neighbors than I do in “queer” liberal circles because my neighbors call me a lesbian and a woman and not “an LGBTQ+ person,” a “cis afab” or a “person who menstruates.” I’ve had people ask me if I am truly non-binary or a trans man because I have short hair and don’t wear makeup or dresses. They think they are “woke” and with it, but they’re actually just irritating and sexist. I’ve also been told by leftist straight people (who I call heteroqueers) that I’m anti-gay rights for my feminist views on pornography, “kink culture” and BDSM, and single-sex women’s sports and prisons. At this point any function or organization that advertises the words “queer” and “LGBT friendly” are red flags and to be avoided for my sanity.
